The mission of The Nominal Group, Inc. is twofold: 1) to address the need for increased health awareness education and individual skills building training for disadvantaged children, young adults, and families; and 2) to address the technical assistance needs of community-based organizations who provide targeted services.
In order to accomplish this mission, The Nominal Group, Inc. has established the following objectives:
Values and Principles
The Nominal Group, Inc. is committed to building better lives for disadvantaged children, youth, young adults, families and community organizations by providing health awareness education and skills-building training services that foster intellectual development, and organizational technical assistance and support which increases an organization’s services delivery capacity. While nurturing children and young adults’ ability to think skillfully and critically, we believe that an individual should strive to maintain the highest level of honesty and integrity.
Vision
The organization’s education training and technical assistance services will lead to: 1) less children and young adults participating in behaviors that place them at risk of personal under-achievement; and 2) an increase in an organization’s capacity to provide better services or operate in a more comprehensive and responsive manner.
The Nominal Group, Inc. is governed by a 11-member Board of Directors, and managed by a Chief Executive Officer. The Board of Directors are highly qualified volunteers with more than 85 years combined experience in working with high risk individuals and in high risk communities. The Chief Executive Officer is supported in the performance of her duties by an Administrative Assistant I. Other key staff includes: Community Health Educators, Project Site Coordinator, a Community Liaison, Evaluators, Accountant, a Special Projects Consultant, a 13-Member Community Advisory Group, and a host of volunteers. The Nominal Group, Inc. collaborates with more than 15 agencies in Mississippi.
The organizational structure is comprised of four divisions: Division of Administrative and Operations Support; Division of Planning and Development, Division of Health Education, and Division of Capacity-Building Training and Technical Assistance. Through these divisions, The Nominal Group addresses its identified service areas of 1) health and education awareness and prevention services to youth, young adults, and their families and communities; 2) community-wide awareness and prevention training in health, safety, and other areas related to improving the quality of life of disadvantaged minority persons; and 3) capacity building training and technical assistance to other community-based organizations and agencies that serve these populations.
Division of Administrative and Operations Support
The primary function of the Division of Administrative and Operations Support is to provide an efficient and effective day-to-day process of management and support for handling key financial and personnel matters associated with the administration of programs and services and the protection of personnel and participants served.
The Division of Administrative and Operations Support has two units: Office of Human Resources and 2) Office of Fiscal Affairs.
Office of Human Resources
The Office of Human Resources is responsible for administering all personnel services, including recruiting, recommending for hiring, evaluating, coordinating professional development, and developing strategies to retain qualified staff to effectively work in The Nominal Group, Inc. The Office of Human Resources works in coordination with programmatic personnel to ensure the protection of participants as related to insurance plans, any assignments/tasks for which remuneration might be expected or provided, safe-keeping of required forms (i.e., consent authorizations, insurance records), and any other matters within its purview which will lend itself to the protection of the participants/clients served.
Office of Fiscal Affairs
The primary function of the Office of Fiscal Affairs is to handle key financial matters associated with the administration of programs and services and the protection of personnel and participants served.
Division of Planning and Development
The Division of Planning and Development is specifically responsible for developing a Master Plan for the development of The Nominal Group, which integrates. In addition, the Division has final responsibility for preparing the needs statement and the case statement that communicates the needs and associated costs that the organization will address in its fund raising efforts.
The Division of Planning and Development has two units: 1) Office of Planning and Evaluation and 2) Office of Fund Raising and Development.
Office of Planning and Evaluation
The Office of Planning and Evaluation is responsible for managing all functions of the Office of Planning and Evaluation. This unit has direct responsibility: 1) to ensure the periodic review and update of the organization’s strategic plan and other planning documents to protect the integrity of its operations in keeping with its original or any authorized subsequent revision of its mission, values, and vision; 2) to aid in the development, periodic review, and enforcement of strategies for accomplishing set goals and objectives of the strategic plan; 3) to implement and manage a data management system which will ensure the collection of essential data to monitor the processes and outcomes of the objectives of The Nominal Group and its various divisions and programs; and 4) to develop and implement a plan of evaluation for each essential program component.
Office of Fund Raising and Development
The Office of Fund Raising and Development is responsible for designing and administering proven techniques for raising funds from diversified sources that will ensure adequate financial resources to enable the accomplishment of set goals and objectives of the strategic plan and perpetuation of the organization. The office is responsible for attracting, recruiting, and coordinating the services of volunteers attracted to The Nominal Group, Inc.
Division of Health Education
The Division of Health Education functions to accomplish the strategic goal of The Nominal Group, Inc. to address the need for increased health awareness education and individual skills building training for disadvantaged children, young adults, and families. The division has two offices: 1) the Office of Health Education and Community Outreach and 2) the Office of Special Projects.
Office of Health Education and Community Outreach
The specific goals of the Office of Health Education and Community Outreach are to: 1) design and implement health education awareness and prevention services to youth, young adults, and their families and communities; and 2) develop and implement community-wide health and safety awareness and disease prevention training designed to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged minority persons.
Office of Special Projects
The function of the Office of Special Projects is to further the goals of the Division of Health Education as related to funded projects through restricted funds. The specific goal of the Office of Special Projects is to effectively integrate HIV/AIDS, STD, substance use and abuse, and violence prevention and intervention activities into the community.
Division of Capacity-Building Training and Technical Assistance
The primary function of the Division of Capacity-Building Training and Technical Assistance is to further The Nominal Group’s strategic goal to design and implement capacity building training and technical assistance to other community-based organizations and agencies that serve the at-risk and high-risk populations identified by the organization. The specific goal of the Office of Capacity-building and Technical Assistance is to provide comprehensive capacity-building and technical assistance and training to any nonprofit group or individual interested in promoting a better quality of life for its citizens. These organizations specifically include community-based organizations, churches, educational associations or schools, health agencies, and other nonprofit groups.
